St. Paul's School, Gwalior

A BRIEF HISTORY OF ST. PAUL'S SCHOOL, MORAR, GWALIOR

Established in 1964, at "Kale babu ki kothi", Thatipur by Fr. Abraham Palakudy who was also the first principal of the school. Fr. Abraham put in his best efforts to lay a solid foundation on which to stand and secured, against all odds, the recognition by and affiliation to the M.P. Board of Education, Bhopal.

Fr. George Chennat, took over from Fr. Abraham, as the second Principal in 1972. In 1976, the school, which by then had come at Std. VIII level, was shifted to Rtd. Justice H. Khan's Bunglow, behind Narcotics Bureau of India Office at Morar, a prime location of the area, which the Diocese of Jhansi had bought for the purpose.

A double storey building was put up towards south ease of the vast property to accomodate the KG/Primary classes.

Fr. A. Kulmi took over as the third Principal of the School in 1980. He raised the school upto Std. X and succeeded in securing C.B.S.E. affiliation in 1985. To accomodate the growing number of students, Fr. Kulmi constructed the main building of the school, which was inaugurated in 1987.

Fr. Freddy Mendonca took over from Fr. Kulmi in 1990. In 1991, he added Computer Science to curriculam. He also secured the approval of C.B.S.E. to raise the School to +2 level in 1994, with Science and Commerce streams. An annexe to the main building was built to house Library, Science Lab. and the Computer section.

Hindi Med. Sec.

In order to provide educational opportunity to children of not-so-well-to-do segment of the society of the area, a Hindi Medium section of the school was inaugurated in 1991 which has now reached at class X level, It functions during afternoon shift.

Fr. J. Chipson, who succeeded Fr. Freddy, in 1996, has given finishing touches to the main school building by adding the 3rd floor and getting the ground in front, cemented to have clean & dustfree surroundings.

The School continues to grow and improve, having on its rolls about 4000 students and a well qualified and experienced staff of 100+ teachers. The Institution is indeed a beacon of light for the people of Morar and surroundings.

SISTERS

The Major superiors of the congragation of Sisters of Adoration of Blessed Sacrament(SABS) of Changanachery (Kerala), agreed to open their house in Gwalior and to assist the Rev. Fathers in running the school, at the request of the then Bishop of Jhansi Most. Rev. Dr. Baptist Mudartha. The first batch of sisters arrived in 1966 and since then they continue to render, valuable service to the institution.
